5 Rules to keep you safe in the surf

(1) swim between the flags - it is important to swim between the flags if you don't the lifeguards won't see you if your in trouble so swim between the flags if you want to stay safe. photo

(2) have a adult watch over you - make sure an adult watch over you so if your in trouble they can come help.photo

(3) listen to the advice of a lifeguard -  lifeguard know a lot more than you so you so always listen to them because they have been trained to save peoples live.photo

(4) never swim or surf alone - when you head into the sea, you need to make sure you have someone with you so you can look out for each other. photo

(5)   if in doubt stay out - if you think the sea is not safe don't take any risks.photo 

This is my do you know your signs word find. All i used was a pen and a piece of paper. The learning muscles i had to are making links and absorption. The bit I found tricky is fitting all the words in. 

do you know your signs

This is my "do you know your signs" poster. I did it with chahut my friend and it has all the signs on it. Stop sign, no pedestrians, give way, school patrol stop, bike lane sign, railway crossing, crosswalk ahead and school sign. The muscles we used were collaboration and making links. The part that was challenging is getting the sign shapes right and now we are working on a wordfind and a model.     

PBL/Insects.

This is my PBL insect it is a Praying Mantis. I  named it Bugsey because he has really derpy eyes. Bugsey is made out of: plastic, green paint, newspaper and hot glue.  The learning muscles i had to use are empathy to listen to what I have to do, my favorite part was painting her and getting  my hands dirty. The bit that was hard was getting the body shape right. 

Introduction

A Praying mantis is a small insect. Praying mantises are very good hunters,  They have sharp pointed claws pushed in front of it so it looks it is praying. They come in 4 different subspecies the Asian mantis, New zealand's mantis, Unicorn mantis and the Orchid mantis. They can grow to five to eight centimetres.They have three body parts 1.head 2.the abdomen 3.thorax, and they can be pink, white, green, brown.        

Diet

The praying mantis eats other insects, for example flies, mosquitos and also can eat birds and pinky mice. Females have to hunt for their young nymphs, they eat cut up pieces of mosquitoes.  { method of hunt } the mantis stays motionless on a stem or leaf, well camouflaged as it waits for its prey. It grabs the prey with its strong front legs and bites the head off and eats it.

Eats insects that can harm vegetation	When the female mates with the male the male the female eats it. Since the african mantis is in nz it is eating the nz mantis so the numbers are running low

Life cycle

After mating with a male, a female mantis lays a group of 50-100 eggs in a egg case which is made out of a frothy paste that comes from female praying mantis.Unlike some other insects praying mantises have just three stages:egg, nymph, adult. Nymphs are basically adults but have no wings. A young praying mantis is called a nymph. Each egg case has about 100-200 mantises in it. In order to hatch they'll need several weeks of warm weather,so they can sense that summer has arrived. They will develop into adults by shedding.  Shedding is when as they grow from a nymph their skin falls off them.

Defence

Praying mantis is actually pretty strong, when a praying mantis is threatened it will stand up tall, spreads its spiked forelegs, fans out its wings as wide as possible, and opens its mouth. It is quite frightening for a human so imagine for a other insect. Mantises depend on their camouflage for survival. They can change colour to blend in with their environment. There are many Predators including birds that they have to look out for.Most kinds of mantis have a space inside their that helps them hear high-pitched sounds that bats make.

My Special Place by Sophie Moore

I got out of the car and I felt the relaxing sand rush between my toes. I heard the crashing waves push angrily together. I immediately got into my togs ,grabed my boogie board, and set off in the nice cold relaxing ocean.

when I hear paul shout “dinner time” so I run as fast as I can to my delicious KFC tea. I scoffed and crunched I love KFC it tasted yummy.  I loved the burger and fries as well. when id finished eating my splendid dinner it started getting chilli.

Then in the distance we saw someone pull up a little grey shark struggling like a tiny worm trying to wiggle away, The shark wasn't happy but they let it back in the water now he's happy and  so was I, wriggling away into the cold sea.

red,pink,blue and purple colours it was amazing the clouds were covered

with a blanket of great colours and over the horizon there were dolphin playing around and seagulls squawking away this looks  beautiful  I never want to leave the best place in the world.

All about me.

1.Best memory-My best memory is when I was 3 yrs old and mum said I was old enough to have a pet of my own. A pet budgie🐦. When we got to the pet shop, we looked for one that I liked, I saw was a beautiful budgie. It was a boy but I didn't care if it was a girl or a boy, I called him Lulu. He was green and yellow. I played with him fed him even cleaned his cage. He was my best friend

My much loved hobby-Riding my pony Pickles.🐎 He is a brown gelding Pony.He is snappy around food. I also like entering riding competitions with my pony.On my first day of Pony Club, Pickles was the fastest Pony,Pickles could jump over the highest horse jump that other horses couldn't.

3.What makes me laugh-The thing that makes me laugh🤣 is my cats🐈 love of plastic bags🛍. Once when mum and I came back from new world, mum must of dropped a plastic bag on the ground while she was unpacking and when she finished mum went to her bedroom🛏 and found  the cat Chili on the bed sleeping in the bag.

4.A fun fact about me is that I love climbing trees🌲,I've had so many injuries from falling out of trees I have even dislocated my knee from falling out. Did you know  that tree climbing is so fun and dangerous

My name is Sophie Moore and I am going to tell you a bit about myself.

1. I am 8 yrs old. 

2. I have 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

3. I used to have three pets but now I have one cat and his name is chili. The other one was a pony but we had to sell him because mum and I didn't have enough time to take care of him properly and the other other one was a dog called  Carter he had to be put down because one morning he couldn't get up with out help by mum or dad.

4. My favorite food is bacon,popcorn and butter chicken.

 5.My hobbies are drawing ,studying animals ,riding my brown pony pickles and collecting stuff.
